Nonprofit Organizations Making a Difference in Our Community

Long Valley Patch takes a quick look at those serving the community for a greater good.

Patch Picks is exploring the world of nonprofit organizations in the community, and highlighting a few that are making a major difference. Check them out.

  • Heartworks
    This non-profit organization began in Bernardsville in response to the demonstrated support to families in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. It is made up of a group of women who strive to and those in need in surrounding areas through random acts of kindness. Heartworks members meet at a member’s house on the third Tuesday of each month to discuss opportunities to help others.
  • Long Valley Women's Club
    This outstanding organization has a history of civic, cultural, charitable, and educational assistance. It also raises funds for Seeing Eye Dogs, the NJ Battered Woman’s Shelter, the Safe Homes program, and Foster Care Program. The LVWC additionally sponsors the annual Spelling Bee, the Children’s Art and Recreational Enrichment (C.A.R.E.) program, the Summer Read-A-Thon, Turn-Off-The-T.V. Week, and the Science and Technology Fair.
  • Washington Township Historical Society
    The Washington Township Historical Society aims to educate those interested in the history of Washington Township, Morris County, and the state of New Jersey, and promotes a better appreciation and understanding of our American heritage.  The society hosts historical programs and collects and preserves various archives in their museum. Members meet on the third Tuesday of each month at the museum.
  • The Washington Township Girl Scouts
    The Washington Township Girl Scouts have continuously served the community and have supported such organizations as the foster children’s association, local food pantries, animal shelters, and have also been involved in an “American Troop to American Troop” project to support soldiers in Afghanistan and a Ronald McDonald’s Helping Hands project.
  • Children's Enrichment Program For The Handicapped, Inc.
    This non-profit organization provides for children with special needs and their families through recreational services, cultural experiences, and emotional and social support. The organization also educates parents and caregivers through programs in the surrounding areas.
