Some Outages Remain In Long Valley After Tropical Storm Elsa

The library will be open on Saturday with internet and phone charging areas for residents still without power.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — It’s been a rollercoaster ride in Long Valley and Washington Township since Tuesday regarding power outages.

Nearly all residents had their power restored on Thursday then hit a backslide overnight on Thursday with close to 900 Jersey Central Power and Light customers out again, with that whittled down on Friday morning to 500.

The police department reported overnight on its Facebook Page Thursday, there were four road closures as a result of the storm activity, with most of the outages from downed trees and wires.

By 6 p.m. Friday, of almost 900 statewide outages, there were 116 remaining in Morris County, with about 100 in Washington Township.

Power in Washington Township and Long Valley was expected to be restored in most cases, on Friday night.

Washington Township Police reported on Friday morning the Washington Township Library would be open for residents who may still be without power through Saturday, to charge their phones and have internet access if they need it.


Washington Township Mayor Murello said he'll continue to update residents on his Facebook Page here, as he communicate with JCP&L. In his report on Friday at 4 p.m., Murello said that JCP&L was working on small clusters of homes and hoped to have all restorations complete by late Friday.

Residents who have JCP&L and experience a power loss during the storms should call 888-LIGHTSS (888-544-4877).

Extended Forecast Through Thursday, July 15

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly reports after a chance of thunderstorms overnight into Saturday, fog is predicted to hang around until 7 a.m., before it burns off and sunny skies and a high of 81 degrees come in for Saturday afternoon. There’s another chance of showers in Long Valley on Saturday night into Sunday with patchy fog again overnight expected from 4 to 5 a.m.

Through Sunday, the same on and off with showers, fog, then sunshine repeats, with a high of about 82 degrees expected.

The National Weather Service’s extended forecast for Long Valley through Thursday, July 15 alternates between chances of thunderstorms, then fog, before the sun returns, with daily highs in the upper 80s and nighttime lows in the upper 60s.
