Owner of Long Valley Company Admits to $3M Worth of Mail Fraud

Courtney Shorter sent more than 1,700 invoices for work never done, report says.

A Roselle man who owns a Long Valley-based freight shipping company admitted Wednesday to committing mail fraud and now faces up to 20 years in prison.

The scam ran between 2008 and 2010 when Courtney Shorter, 48, owner of Sam Shorter & Son Delivery Service, sent a Fort Myers, Florida company 1,725 bills for work that was never done, according to nj.com.

Shorter received $3,039,840 as a result of the scam, the report said. Sam Shorter & Sons Delivery is a freight shipping and trucking company.

As a result of his guilty plea, Shorter now faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, the report said. Sentencing is scheduled for July 28.
