Paving Project to Shut Rt. 24, Cause 5-Mile Detour Thursday

Work time scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A small, 0.3-mile stretch of roadway in Chester Township is going to cause some very big traffic problems Thursday when a portion of Rt. 24 in Chester Township is closed for milling and paving.

Rt. 24 will be closed between Furnace Road and State Park Road from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 28 for milling and paving, causing miles-long detours for motorists.

Drivers heading east will be detoured onto Furnace Road to Rt. 206 and over to Rt. 206-Rt. 24 intersection. Drivers heading west will be detoured onto Parker Road, right onto Old Farmers Road, and right again onto East Valley Brook Road, which outlet onto Rt. 24. That detour is 4.7 miles in distance.

Large trucks will be permitted to cross through the construction zone, police said. The milling and paving is expected to be completed in one day.
