Police Dog Finds Heroin During Long Valley Traffic Stop: Police

LONG VALLEY, NJ— A Washington Township Police dog uncovered heroin and hypodermic needles during a traffic stop, police said in a statement.

Patrol Officer Michael Thompson saw signs of narcotics use inside a car while conducting a traffic stop on Route 46 on March 6.

K-9 Cliff sniffed around the outside of the car, eventually alerting Thompson to drugs. Further investigation turned up heroin and a hypodermic needle.

Kevin Guthrie, 22, of Boca Raton, Florida, was arrested and charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as a speeding ticket. He was released with a mandatory court date.
