Rabid Raccoon Could Be On The Loose In Washington Township
Washington Township Police are warning residents to be alert for a possibly rabid raccoon.
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ— Washington Township Police are warning residents against an aggressive raccoon that they believe might be rabid. One dog walker and her dog were already approached by the raccoon.
On April 13, a woman walking her dog in the area of Cobblestone Lane and Kings Highway were approached by what police say was an aggressive raccoon. The woman was able to push the raccoon away before it ran away; it is still on the loose.
Rabies can cause aggression in animals. Other signs an animal might be rabid include foaming at the mouth, difficulty walking, and making loud noises.

If you see this raccoon, police ask that you call the Washington Township Police Department immediately at 908.876-3232 and press “0”.
A man was attacked by a rabid coyote earlier this year in a Long Valley Park. In that case, the man was bit before park police could euthanize the coyote, as Patch reported.
