Twp. Police Donate $500 to Long Valley Food Pantry
Local PBA helps pantry organizers 'fill holes' on the shelves.
The Washington Township community doesn’t just include residents, but those who work in town as well.
And one group of employees stepped up this week to help those they already serve on a daily basis.
On Thursday, the Washington Township Police Benevolence Association Local 301 presented a $500 check to the Long Valley Interfaith Food Pantry, just a few days after the organization asked residents for help as shelves grew bare and the spring holiday season drew near.

Officers Adam Feichter and Derrick Heymer presented the check to Long Valley Presbyterian Church member and volunteer Pat Strathern at the food pantry Thursday afternoon.
The 29 members of the local PBA voted on the donation at their regular meeting Wednesday night, the officers said.

The food pantry is currently serving more than 70 families in need from the area, allowing them to come in weekly and “shop” the shelves and two refrigerators available at the pantry.
While the pantry has received a slight boost in recent days, the money will go to “filling the holes,” Strathern said – making up for the types of foods and needs that are often sought but are currently not available, including meat and fresh produce.
While all donations are accepted and appreciated, it would be best of warehouse sized-goods were not brought.
Items needed include:
- cereal
- canned fruit
- fruit/applesauce cups
- coffee
- juice
- spaghetti sauce
- all in one meals such as Spagettios, Ravioli, etc.
- rice
- shampoo/conditioner
- lotion
- toothpaste/toothbrushes
- bar soap
- dish soap
- laundry detergent
- paper towels
- toilet paper
- plastic snack and sandwich bags
- feminine products
The best time to drop-off at the pantry is Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. when the Long Valley Presbyterian Church office is open. Carberry will be at the pantry this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon as well.
The pantry is located at 39 Bartley Road.
