Daniel J. Haurey said he wants to show men and women in blue appreciation.
LONG VALLEY, NJ - A 20-year resident of Long Valley is trying to show some appreciation for the Washington Township Police by donating $1,000 to the department.
"Please join me in gathering funds to donate to the Washington Township Police Dept to let them know that, we the people, see them, and support them," Haurey wrote on his fundraiser page.
Haurey said he was moved to start the fundraiser after witnessing unrest, rioting and violence, including injuries and death to police around the nation.

"Thousands of peaceful protests have been held as well. At all of those protests are the men and women who took an oath to serve and protect and defend the rights that we hold dear to us a citizen," he said. "Most of them, good police, brave people, doing their job."
Haurey said he participated in one of those peaceful protests himself.
