Washington Twp Police Launch Program To Help Those With Autism
The new program aims to improve interactions between police and people living with autism.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Washington Township Police have announced a new program to aid emergency workers when interacting with local residents with autism.
Police are asking all residents with autism, or their family members, to complete an Autism Emergency Information Form and submit it to police. The list asks for information such as method of communication, sensory issues, and if the person has any behaviors or characteristic that "may attract attention." It also asks for any approaching and de-escalation techniques police should use.
The information will be stored in police records, and will be used as necessary during emergencies. There is no fee to participate.
