Ramapo College Baseball Player's Goal Is To Pitch Again Despite Losing Part Of Leg In Mahwah Accident, Report Says

Jason Criscuolo was critically injured after he was struck by a pickup while crossing Route 17 last month.

A Ramapo College pitcher who lost part of his leg after he was struck by a pickup truck while crossing Route 17 in Mahwah last month wants to pitch again, his family told The Record.

Jason Criscuolo, 18, is “upbeat” and ready for the recovery process that may get him back on the baseball diamond, the report states.

Criscuolo’s father, Anthony said that his son, with the help of a special prosthesis and rehabilitation, can “absolutely pitch” again and that ”there’s no limit” to what he can do, the report states.

Criscuolo, a Brick Township native, was trying to cross Route 17 to dinner at McDonald’s, The Record reported, just before 8 p.m. on Sept. 27 when he was hit by a pickup truck. Mahwah Police Officer Matt Lombardo applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding and helped save Criscuolo’s life.

An emergency medical technician was driving behind the truck that hit Criscuolo and administered aid to Criscuolo.

The young man’s left foot and ankle were amputated at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center and he was placed on a ventilator for eight days, the report states.

Criscuolo said he plans to take Ramapo courses online until he returns to campus next September, his father told The Record.
