Eleven Mahwah ninth grade girls can proudly call themselves Silver Award winning girl scouts.
Monday night’s award ceremony inducted one of the largest groups of scouts Mahwah has seen in at least five years, according to parents and troop leaders.
“You should all be very proud of your accomplishment,” Pat Maul of the Girl Scouts of Northern NJ organization said when addressing the girls during the ceremony.

This second-highest award in all of girl scouting is only earned after girls create an approved project of their choosing that requires a minimum number of hours. Parents estimate that each high school student spent an average of three to six months perfecting her individual or group project.
At Monday’s ceremony, the girl’s presented posters and gave speeches explaining what they had chosen to dedicate their time and effort to.
