Mahwah 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony Is Tuesday

1 Mahwah resident, Richard Avery Aronow, died in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

MAHWAH, NJ — Tuesday is the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

A remembrance ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. in the grass area across from the Train Caboose Museum on East Ramapo Avenue, near the train station.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Department of Public Works building.

Mahwah resident Richard Avery Aronow died in the attack on the World Trade Center. According to CNN.com, Aronow was a lawyer at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He died on the 66th floor of Tower 1 in the World Trade Center.

According to the New York Times profile of 9/11 victims, Aronow, who worked for the Port Authority for 18 years, was known as "sensei," the Japanese word for "teacher."

Aronow was one of 147 Bergen County, and 650 New Jersey, residents who died in the attacks.
