Mahwah Paints Blue Line In Support Of Police Department

'The blue line is symbolic of the appreciation and support we have from our community,' said Chief James Batelli.

MAHWAH, N.J. — The township painted a thin blue line in front of police headquarters on Franklin Turnpike recently in support of the department.

Painting such a line has become almost commonplace in Bergen County and North Jersey as several municipalities — including Wyckoff, Glen Rock, and Fair Lawn — have done so in recent weeks.

Sue Larson, a Mahwah resident, contacted the department about having the line painted, said police Chief James Batelli.

"As an agency we were pleased to see a blue line painted in front of our headquarters to show support not only for the Mahwah Police, but law enforcement in general," Batelli said. "The blue line is symbolic of the appreciation and support we have from our community and in conjunction with the many lawn signs showing law enforcement support our officers are very thankful and proud to work in a community that is so supportive of their police department."
