Mahwah Resident Found Dead In Snow Was Mary Wall, 64

The woman had a shovel with her when she died, police said.

MAHWAH, Nj — Police have released the identity of the woman found dead in the snow Monday afternoon. She allegedly died while shoveling snow.

Police said the woman was Mary Wall, 64, who lived at 49 Sunnyside Road. Wall was holding a shovel when her body, which was mostly covered by snow, was found.

Children had gotten off a school bus and were walking home when they saw a jacket sticking up from the snow in the driveway, said Sgt. Michael Blondin. The kids knocked on the resident’s door, but no one answered. They then noticed Wall’s body with the jacket and told their parents, who called 911.

The Bergen County medical examiner was dispatched to the scene after the body was discovered, police said in published reports.

Wall’s death is the fourth weather-related North Jersey fatality due to the snowstorm that blanketed the area with two feet of snow this weekend.

Sashalynn Rosa, 23, and her 1-year-old son, Messiah, died Saturday from carbon monoxide poisoning in Passaic when the tailpipe of the car they were in because the car’s tail pipe was covered with snow. Rosa’s 3-year-old daughter remains in critical condition.

“The doctors say they don’t think she’s [the daughter] going to make it. Doctor says she has a slight chance to make it,” the daughter’s grandfather, Felix Bonilla, told WABC-TV.

A body of a 78-year-old woman was found in a car in a Hackensack Burger King parking lot at 8:30 a.m. Monday, police said. The woman parked at the restaurant Saturday night because she was uncomfortable driving in the snow, authorities said.
