Mail Stolen From 4 Mahwah Mailboxes: Police

Anyone who put mail with identifying information in the boxes in the last day should call the police.

MAHWAH, NJ — Mail was stolen overnight Wednesday from four U.S. Post Office mailboxes, police said.

Three stand-alone mailboxes located outside of the Mahwah post office on East Ramapo Avenue and one in front of 400 Franklin Turnpike were broken into, said Chief James Batelli.

Anyone who placed mail in these mailboxes that contained identifying personal information like social security numbers or credit card or banking information, should file a report with the Mahwah Police Department, Batelli said. Residents should also call their bank or any other financial institution immediately.

The Mahwah Police Department has a contact sheet of phone numbers of various credit reporting agencies should residents need such information.

Mahwah Police officers and the United States Postal authorities are investigating the thefts.

Anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspicious near any of the mailboxes should call Detective Lt. Guido Bussinelli at 201-529-1000, ext. 218.
