Police Urge Caution on State Highways

Police urge drivers to use caution when using state highways. Several ramps to Route 18 also remain closed.

Police officials said Tuesday morning that drivers should remain cautious when using state highways such as Route 9 because many of the off ramps have not been plowed so getting off at a particular destination could be difficult.

Route 9 ramps to Union Hill Road are all closed, according to State Police.

A traffic advisory is also in effect  on several ramps heading to Route 18. Ramps on Tennet Road, Route 520 and Route 79 are all closed due to snow and abandoned vehicles.

The county is deploying four tandem trucks and a front-end loader to clear Route 18, said William Heine, public information officer for Monmouth County.

"We had 115 trucks and about 200 people working around the clock on snow removal,"  said Heine. "Yesterday, as the county roads were finished, we cleared some state-owned ramps and roadways (Route 33) so ambulances could get to Jersey Shore Medical Center."

The total snowfall in Englishtown and Manalapan was about 22 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
