Four more major stores are going to close in New Jersey, joining a growing list of retailers who are leaving the state.

NEW JERSEY – Four more major stores are going to close in New Jersey, joining a growing list of retailers who are leaving the state.
Kmart is closing stores in Wayne, Trenton, Wall and Somers Point. The stores are expected to close by the end of the year, which will likely add to the growing list of 1,600 people who are scheduled to be laid off in New Jersey over the next two months.
“After careful review, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to close the Kmart stores in Wayne, Trenton, Wall and Somers Point," Larry Costello, spokesman for Sears and Kmart, told Patch.

Liquidation sales are expected to begin in mid-September and the stores are planning to close by mid-December," Costello said.
"We encourage customers to continue shopping on Kmart.com for all their product needs.” Costello said.

The only remaining Kmart stores in New Jersey will be Belleville, Kearny, Toms River, West Long Branch, West Orange, Westwood and Woodbridge.

A number of Sears and Kmart stores also have closed in recent years as the company has struggled to survive. The new closings come eight months after a last-minute reprieve saved Sears Holdings, which owns Kmart, from liquidation.
In a recent message to shareholders, Sears said, "We have made the difficult but necessary decision to close 26 large-format Sears and Kmart stores (across the country)."
Acme Markets also is reportedly closing three of its supermarkets in New Jersey. They include Woodcliff Lake, Elmwood Park and Weehawken. Read more: Acme To Close More Bergen County Locations: Report
One company that's shutting down 20o stores, Walgreens, has 158 locations in New Jersey but has not disclosed what sites will begin closing.
