Cahill Steps Down as Manasquan Football Coach
After appointment as vice-principal, Warriors are without head coach

Pete Cahill stepped down as Manasquan's head football coach on Tuesday when he was approved as a vice principal at the Manasquan Board of Education meeting, leaving an opening at one of the top programs in the state.
“It’s time for a change,” said Cahill. “I’m literally giving up the best job there is, but sometimes you have to make those tough decisions. The program is in real good hands.
“I told the kids that the best part of the program that (legendary coach) Vic (Kubu) set up is that nobody is bigger than the program and that includes the head coach. I’ve done it before, and I always knew I would get back into the administration end.”

Cahill was a vice principal at Manasquan for three years in the early ’00s, and he then served as defensive coordinator under the legendary Kubu, who is being inducted posthumously this summer into the Shore Football Coaches Foundation Hall of Fame.
Cahill took over as head coach following Kubu’s death from cancer in 2007. In four seasons as head coach, Cahill had a 34-11 record, including a 9-2 season this past fall in which the Warriors won the Shore Conference Class C Central title and reached the Central Jersey Group II semifinals. He led the Warriors to a CJ II title in 2008, giving them a Shore Conference-record 11 sectional titles overall. He also led Manasquan to the CJ II championship game in 2009.

The most likely candidates to succeed Cahill are a pair of veteran assistants who also coached under Kubu, Jay Price and Rich Read.
