Police from Manasquan and Belmar discovered crack cocaine during a recent drug bust, police said.
The incident happened on May 1 when Belmar police stopped a motor vehicle on Route 35 because of multiple motor vehicle violations, police said.
The driver, identified as Barrington Stevens, exhibited behavior that led police to continue the investigation. A narcotics K9 was then requested from surrounding towns, police said.

A Manasquan police patrolman arrived on scene with his dog George to do a K9 sniff on Barrington’s vehicle. The dog picked up an odor of narcotics, police said.
A search of the vehicle was performed by the officers on scene and 11 bags of suspected cocaine and two bags of suspected crack cocaine were located inside, police said.

Barrington was arrested and charged with distribution of cocaine over a half-ounce, a second-degree crime; distribution within a recreation zone; possession of a controlled dangerous substance; and multiple motor vehicle violations, police said.
Barrington was sent to Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of bail.
