Gas Main Break Closes Route 71, Main Street in Manasquan

A gas main break in Manasquan created a heavy detour through Route 71 and Main Street Thursday morning.

The gas main break temporarily closed state highway 71 in both directions south of Main Street, creating a traffic shift. The northbound traffic is using the southbound roadway.

Southbound traffic was detoured through Manasquan. Police and utility crews are in place to direct traffic and complete repairs.

Issues began after 6 a.m. Thursday at the major intersection.

The repairs are forecast to last through 10:07 a.m. today, according to 511nj.org, the state traffic incident map.
