Manasquan Warns of Possible Flooding, Weather Impact of Wednesday Nor'easter

Manasquan officials said they were troubled a Wednesday Nor'Easter could bring high winds and coastal flooding, particularly around high tides.

Borough Council urged residents at this week's meeting to heed National Weather Service warnings and watch for updated borough messages for the storm response, here.

Councilman Steve Bossone said the borough's ongoing beach rebuilding work would likely be halted during a heavy storm.

In a message from the borough today, Manasquan emphasized a powerful mid-week coastal storm will impact the region with high winds and flooding:

"Confidence is increasing that the area will likely will experience another strong coastal storm later this week. Onshore winds will ramp up quickly on Wednesday, likely limiting any type of wintery precipitation, however, the strong winds, resulting high surf and coastal flooding is of increasing concern," announced the borough.

The forecast includes winds that may exceed 50 miles per hour for a time late Wednesday into Thursday. Storm surge forecasts range from 3’-4’, which will likely translate into moderate coastal flooding for the area on Wednesday afternoon into Thursday.

The borough also warned residents: "Due to the size and strength of the storm, there is a possibility of more significant coastal flooding on Thursday."

Particular risk could come at high tides, which are as follows:
2:50 p.m. Wednesday
3:23 a.m. Thursday
4 p.m. Thursday

Minor coastal flooding may linger into Friday and the very rough surf will likely extend well into the weekend, according to the forecast.

Elsewhere, Brick officials were urging residents in that township's barrier island neighborhoods as well as those in low-lying mainland neighborhoods to relocate a day before a powerful nor'easter is forecast to strike the Shore area.

In Spring Lake, officials issued a storm warning, urging residents along the oceanfront to move their vehicles inland.

The notification from Spring Lake:

"The most recent update from the National Weather Service indicates that conditions will deteriorate through the day tomorrow (Wednesday - March 6, 2013) and into Thursday.  We expect rain, high winds, some moderate coastal flooding and possibly wet snow. 

These conditions may cause power interruptions or outages.  To report a downed wire or power outage please call 1-888-544-4877.

Please consider moving cars to higher ground. Any cars parked along Ocean Avenue should be moved. Please bring inside or secure any furniture, flags or other items that could be picked up by the wind.

The Spring Lake Police Department and our Office of Emergency Management are monitoring the conditions throughout the town and will provide further updates if necessary."
