Family Flees Maplewood House As Man Breaks In, Police Say
A Maplewood man, 23, was charged with trespassing following a break-in on Saturday, police said.
MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A Maplewood family fled their home and called 911 as a man was breaking into the front of the house, police said Monday. They said a 23-year-old Maplewood man was charged with trespassing.
Police said that at 6:14 p.m. on Saturday, they received a 911 call from a resident of Claremont Drive that reported an unknown man trying to get into their home through a first-floor window.
The family "exited out the rear door and ran to a nearby neighbor's home while staying on the phone with Maplewood Dispatch," police said.

Police found a 23-year-old Maplewood man in a third-floor bedroom, police said.
He was taken to Newark Beth Israel Hospital for evaluation, police said.

The man was charged with criminal trespass and criminal mischief, police said.
Police sent out a message to residents that evening, alerting them that there was a suspect taken into custody on Claremont Drive.
