Man Robbed At Gunpoint In His Driveway In Maplewood: Police

A Maplewood man told police that two men demanded his wallet and keys in his driveway, then hit him with a gun.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A 49-year-old Maplewood man called police early Wednesday morning to say he was robbed at gunpoint and assaulted in his driveway, police said.

Police said that at approximately 1:39 a.m., the Maplewood Police Department received a 911 call from a Jacoby Street man who stated that he was just robbed. He said that as he was getting out of his car, he was approached by two men.

One man brandished a small black handgun and demanded the resident's keys and wallet, police said.

The man refused, police said, and one of the men struck him with the butt of the gun, "causing a minor injury."

The second man took the wallet from the car, police said.

Both men left on foot northbound toward Springfield Avenue, police said.

Police described the suspects as "black males (one wearing a white colored hooded sweatshirt with a black mask and one wearing a dark colored sweatshirt with a black mask)" and both 20 to 25 years of age.

The resident was evaluated for his injuries by the South Essex Fire Department and declined medical attention, police said.
