Maplewood Carjacking Reported Outside Express Laundry World

A driver was allegedly carjacked outside Express Laundry World on Springfield Avenue, Maplewood police say.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A local driver was allegedly carjacked outside Express Laundry World on Springfield Avenue on Sunday, Maplewood police say.

According to the Maplewood Police Department, the alleged carjacking took place around 8 p.m. after the male victim parked his vehicle outside the business with the engine still running. When the victim came back to his car, he saw a male suspect inside.

The victim then ran up and unsuccessfully tried to open the door, jumping onto the vehicle as the suspect began to drive away, police said.

The victim then fell off the vehicle a short distance away in Irvington. Emergency responders subsequently transported him to Rutgers University Hospital for treatment after arriving on the scene, police said.
