Double Fatal Crash Closed Route 18 In Colts Neck: Cops
A fatal crash involving an oil tanker closed a New Jersey highway overnight, police said.

Two people were killed in an oil tanker crash on a New Jersey highway on Saturday night, according to police.
The driver and a passenger in a tanker truck were killed after the vehicle overturned on Route 18 in Colts Neck, according to police.
The crash occurred around 5 p.m. on the northbound side, near mile marker 22, according to nj.com. The tanker was carrying a small amount of fuel oil that spilled.

Monmouth County's hazardous materials team, nj.com said, and the state Department of Environmental Protection tended to the spilled oil.
The crash happened near Route 18’s junction with Route 537 in Colts Neck, according to The Asbury Park Press. The oil tanker at the scene appeared to lose multiple pieces that were scattered over the roadway and into the adjacent woods.

Eyewitnesses at the scene told The Press they saw what appeared to be a body lying on the highway in the aftermath of the crash.
Traffic was detoured as Route 18 was shut down, according to the reports. No names of the victims were released.
