Marlboro Says Drinking Water Is Safe, Chromium-6 Levels OK
The township said the levels of all types of Chromium, including Chromium-6, were well within legal limits.

Marlboro Township officials published a letter saying drinking water in the township is safe, and that levels of all types of Chromium are within legal safety limits.
The announcement was in direct response to a report published by Patch about the levels of Chromium-6 in drinking water, a known carcinogen made famous by the movie Erin Brockovich.
Marlboro Water Utility said their Chromium-6 levels "remain well below all existing legal limits" which are set forth by state and federal environmental regulators.

The Environmental Protection Agency currently allows for a maximum amount of all types of chromium of 100 ppb (parts per billion). Marlboro Water Utility says their total amount of all types of chromium was between .21 and .35 ppb in 2015, which is significantly below the legal limit.
Although Chromium-6 is not specifically monitored by the EPA (it is included with all types of Chromium), Marlboro Water Utility reported a level of .052 to .16 ppb in April 2015.
