Results of Alstede Farms Crash That Killed Toddler Determined

Investigation by local and county officials lasted more than five months.

More than five months after a toddler was struck and killed by a shuttle bus at a Chester Township farm, authorities have completed their investigation.

On Oct. 12, 2014, police and medical responders arrived at Alstede Farms on Rt. 24 for a report of multiple injuries around 4:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found Elizabeth “Ella” Fuehring, her mother Sarah, and a friend of the family had been struck by a shuttle bus transporting farm-goers.

Elizabeth Fuehring, 2, died as a result of her injuries.

The investigation revealed at 2006 white Cheverolet van along with another black van were shuttling passengers to an from stops between the Gladstone Train Station and Alstede Farms, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said.

At the time of the incident, the white van was parked behind the black van and loading passengers, Knapp said. The white van then rolled forward as the three were walking between the two vehicles, Knapp said.

A drug scan, private toxicology report, and other investigation by local and county authorities resulted in the finding of no criminal conduct on the part of the driver of the vehicle, Knapp said.

No criminal charges are forthcoming as a result of the incident, Knapp said.
