Threat Leads to Enhanced Security at Mendham High School Monday
Prosecutor's Office, Sheriff's Office release joint announcement Monday night for Morris County school.

A threat against Mendham High School has led to heightened security measures at the Mendham Borough building on Monday, Dec. 8, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp announced.
The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Mendham Borough Police Department, and Morris County Sheriff’s Officed released a joint statement just after 8 p.m. Sunday night, stating “law enforcement authorities are pursuing an ongoing investigation into a threat towards the West Morris Mendham High School.”
The statement did not release what type of threat was made or when, but said added security measures will be put into place to ensure the safety of the students, faculty and employees at the school.

In a message sent to Mendham High School families Sunday, Principal Michael Matyas said, “On Friday, December 5, after school hours, a written threat directed at Mendham High School was discovered on two walls in the school. Police were immediately called to investigate the incident. A dialogue between local police, the Morris County Prosecutors Office and school officials began on Friday evening and continued through the weekend.”
The letter continues, ensuring steps have been taken to assure safety:
”Please be aware that we have taken every precautionary measure in partnership with local police and county agencies to assure the safety of our students and staff. Prior to school opening on Mondaymorning, authorities will do a safety sweep of the school. Additionally, there will be a considerably enhanced police and security presence in the school on Monday and throughout the week. Staff was notified earlier this evening. We will also address students and staff on Monday morning as well.”

The investigation is ongoing, Knapp said, and no more information will be released at this time.
