Atlantic Highlands Trucker Killed In Rt. 287 Crash

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ — A truck driver who lived in Atlantic Highlands was killed early Friday morning in a crash on I-287 in Northern New Jersey, said State Police.

Police say Jose Velez-Procel, 54, of Atlantic Highlands, was driving south on Rt. 287 early Friday morning when his truck veered off the right side of the highway.

It then struck a guardrail, causing the cab he was driving to separate from the trailer.

The cab then fell off the I-287 overpass and onto Skyline Drive in Oakland, said Sgt. Lawrence Peele of NJ State Police.

Velez-Procel was pronounced dead at the scene.
