Bahrs Landing Treats FEMA Corps Volunteers to Easter Dinner

HIGHLANDS, NJ - Bahrs Landing played host this past Easter Sunday to a dozen young people from around the country who are part of the AmericCorp/National Civilian Community Corps Program. FEMA Corps is a unit of 1,600 service corps members dedicated to disaster preparedness, response and recovery. The program prepares 18 to 24-year-olds for careers in emergency management and related fields.

The volunteer teams include members from all across the country, from coast to coast. They live and work together and have served on active disaster assignments in Baton Rouge, LA and Savannah, GA. They are now assigned to the Colts Neck FEMA Region 2 office at the Earle Naval Weapons Station for logistic and disaster preparation training. They are currently bunking in Highlands, at the United Methodist Church building on Bay Avenue that served as a hosting site for A Future With Hope Sandy Relief Organization.

When Jay and Becky Cosgrove, whose family owns Bahrs landmark seafood restaurant, heard about the young volunteers staying in the neighborhood, they offered to treat them to Easter dinner.

The Cosgrove's own daughter, Grace, had been a volunteer with the AmeriCorps program and continues to be involved with community service activities and organizations, so Jay and Becky wanted to recognize and thank the FEMA Corp teams for their services.

The unexpected seafood feast was a huge treat for the FEMA Corp teams who said it was one of the highlights of their New Jersey so far.
