Child, 14, Hit By Car Halloween Night In Middletown
Breaking: The boy was hit by either a drunk or high teen driver just before 8 p.m. at Everett Road and Yale Drive in Lincroft, police said.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A 14-year-old boy was hit by a car Halloween night in Middletown, and Middletown police say the teenage driver who hit him was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol when the crash occurred. Marijuana was allegedly found in the car.
The boy is currently at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he is recovering from serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:51 p.m., Oct. 31 at Everett Road and Yale Drive in the Lincroft section of Middletown. The boy was rushed to Jersey Shore by Holmdel First Aid.

The driver, Nicholas J. Andrews, 19, of Union Beach, was arrested at the scene.
"He was charged with driving while intoxicated. 'Intoxicated' can refer to being under the influence of alcohol or drugs," said Lt. Paul Bailey of Middletown police. "We are not commenting on the nature of the intoxication."

Andrews was issued summonses for assault with a motor vehicle while under the influence, possession of marijuana under 50 grams, driving while under the influence of an intoxicating liquor or drugs, failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use headlamps. This is the second incident in New Jersey of people, including children, hit by a car while out on Halloween night this year: In Bayonne, four people, including two children, were hit by a car last night when a car got into an accident and careened on the sidewalk. Two cars went through an intersection at 16th Street and Avenue C around 7:30 p.m., Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis told ABC7. One car jumped the curb and traveled about 75 feet on the sidewalk. One man in that crash was in critical condition, according to ABC7, while severity of the injuries suffered by the children remains unclear. They were all taken to the Jersey City Medical Center.
Meanwhile in Toms River, an 80-year-old man was seriously injured Halloween night when his go-cart flipped over at the Toms River Halloween Parade. Harold Oswald, 80, was driving the miniature gas-powered cart along the parade route and while performing various maneuvers in the road, lost control of the cart. It tipped over and he was thrown from the cart and hit his head on the road, she said. He is in critical but stable condition, also at Jersey Shore Medical Center.
The Middletown crash was investigated by Ptl. Stephanie Burke and members of the Middletown Twp. Police Traffic Safety Unit.

The full list of charges brought against Nicholas Andrews is: Assault with a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence, Possession of Marijuana in an Amount Less than 50 Grams, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor or Drugs, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian, and Failure to Use Headlamps.
