Coast Guard Saves Boat Off Atlantic Highlands Sunday; Watch Video

Watch this video of the U.S. Coast Guard rescuing a boat drifting perilously close to pilings Sunday near the Atlantic Highlands marina.

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ — The U.S. Coast Guard had to rescue a motor boat that was drifting perilously close to some pilings Sunday afternoon near Atlantic Highlands.

The Coast Guard, based at nearby Sandy Hook, was out patrolling Sandy Hook Bay Sunday afternoon when they noticed a motorboat in distress. There were five people aboard; the boat had lost power to its outboard engine and was drifting towards submerged pilings at the entrance of the Atlantic Highlands Marina.

The boat crew threw a heaving line over to the vessel and successfully attached the towline. You can watch the rescue in this video the U.S. Coast Guard posted.

The vessel was safely towed away from the pilings and to the Atlantic Highlands boat ramp with no reported injuries or damage to the pleasure craft.
