Dog Rescued From Lincroft Fire Thursday

A dog was actually trapped inside the burning home on Dogwood Lane Thursday and was saved by local firefighters.

LINCROFT, NJ — Patch learned that a dog was actually trapped inside the burning home Thursday on Dogwood Lane in Lincroft and was rescued by firefighters who got to the scene.

The homeowners were not at home when the fire broke out at about 1:30 p.m. Neighbors told firefighters a dog was in the home and firefighters could see a small white dog on the first floor, jumping up and down near a window, said fire spokesman Dennis Fowler. Meanwhile, the entire home was filling with smoke.

Fire crews were able to break their way inside with the help of a neighbor. The dog ran out the door to safety. He was cared for by some neighbors until his owners returned home.

Flames were shooting through the roof and stretched the entire height of the home, from the first floor to the attic, as you can see in these dramatic photos provided by Fowler. The fire was mostly in the rear of the home and severely damaged the second floor, attic and part of the first floor. There was fire, smoke and water damage throughout the structure.

Thursday's heat advisory, with temperatures between 97 and 103 degrees, made fighting the blaze tough. There was one firefighter overcome by heat during the incident; he was transported by Middletown Emergency Medical Services to Riverview Medical Center, where he was treated and released. Another firefighter had an asthma attack. Thirty-one firefighters were evaluated in the rehab area for their safety due to the extreme heat and working conditions.

Approximately 90 members from 7 companies of the Middletown Township Fire Department responded to the call from Lincroft, River Plaza, Middletown Township Fire Company No. 1, Navesink, Brevent Park, Community, Belford Engine fire companies and the MTFD Air Unit and Fire Safety Unit. Mutual aid support was provided by Red Bank Fire Department.
