Dog Rescued From Middletown House Fire Tuesday Afternoon
A passerby had to rescue the dog from the burning home on West Front Street; nine Middletown firefighters also suffered heat exhaustion.
MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A passerby rescued a dog from a burning home Tuesday afternoon in Middletown, and saved the family's dog from the house fire, according to the Middletown Fire Dept.
A passerby saw flames coming from a home on the 400 block of West Front Street in the River Plaza section at 2:37 p.m. Tuesday. The first arriving fire trucks found flames coming from the left side and roof of the single-story home.
The dog was uninjured and housed with a next-door neighbor, said firefighters. Firefighters did not immediately release details on how exactly the dog was saved, or what kind of dog it was.

The building utilities were secured by New Jersey Natural Gas, Jersey Central Power and Light and New Jersey American Water.
The fire was placed under control by MTFD Third Assistant Chief Daniel Kelly at 2:51 p.m. All units were cleared from the scene at 4:30 p.m.

Approximately 30 firefighters from 6 companies of the Middletown Township Fire Department responded to the call from Navesink, Belford Engine, Middletown FireCompany No.1, River Plaza Hose, Lincroft Fire and Old Village Fire companies. Additionally the MTFD Air Unit, Fire Police and the Safety Unit also responded.
Middletown’s Emergency Medical Services (MEMS) provided medical services to rehabilitate nine firefighters who were overcome in the heat.
All units operated safely under the supervision of Middletown Township Fire Department MTFD Third Assistant Chief Daniel Kelly. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Middletown Township Fire Marshal’s office under the direction of Fire Marshal Edward Skelly.
