MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Last Saturday, Jan. 4 five young Middletown men were sworn in as Eagle Scouts. The local teens are all from Boy Scout Troop 32 (River Plaza) and the ceremony was held at the Methodist church in Middleotwn.

The five scouts completed these projects below in order to attain high-ranking Eagle Scout status:

John (J.T.) Amberg, a 2019 graduate of Middletown High School South, did a memorial project in honor of Donald DeLue, a famous sculptor from Middletown. JT created a website for the sculptor, interviewed people who knew him and uploaded those memories to Story Corps and the National Hall of Records. For the final part of his project, he added plaques to different DeLue sculptures in the Middletown area, all of which include QR codes that direct you to the website to learn more about the sculptor.

Tyler Lavelle graduated from the Academy of Law and Public Safety in 2019. His Eagle Scout project included clearing an old fire road, putting in a new fence and adding a small entrance for foot traffic. This project also allows the fire department easier access to the woods behind Lincroft Firehouse so they can respond faster to any emergencies in this area.

Peter De Celie, a 2019 graduate of Middletown High School South, built and installed two information kiosks and a sign post at two lakes located on the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. He also updated an existing kiosk located at a third lake. The kiosks are used to display current fishing rules and regulations, general information and a description of the fish found in the lakes.
