Actress Daisy Century of American History Theatre will portray Bessie Coleman. Attendees will hear how in 1921 Coleman defied the expectations of her time and became the first woman of color in the world to earn her pilot's license. Born in Texas in 1892, Coleman travelled to France to learn to fly when American flight schools refused to admit her because of her mixed African-American and Cherokee heritage
Between her daring aerial maneuvers as a stunt pilot, Coleman used her fame to encourage other men and women of color to pursue pilots’ careers and refuse to take "no" for an answer.
