Homeowner, Dog Evacuated In North Middletown Fire Saturday

A homeowner and their dog evacuated from a house fire that broke out Saturday morning in North Middletown.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A homeowner and their dog evacuated from a house fire that broke out Saturday morning in North Middletown.

The fire broke out at 10:00 a.m. Saturday on the 400 block of Center Avenue in the North Middletown section of Middletown Township, responded to by Chief Bernie Chenoweth and the all-volunteer Middletown Fire Dept.

When they got there, there was fire on the exterior of the home.

Interior crews doing search and rescue ensured that the homeowner and their dog were the only two occupants and put out fire that was inside. Chief Chenoweth requested an upgrade to full assignment for additional companies to be dispatched for additional firefighters and Rapid Intervention Team support to protect firefighters as they fought the fire.

The building utilities were secured by New Jersey Natural Gas, Jersey Central Power and Light.

All units were cleared from the scene at 11:41 a.m.

Approximately 41 firefighters from four companies of the Middletown Township Fire Department responded to the call from Community, East Keansburg, Port Monmouth and Belford Independent Fire Companies. The MTFD Air Unit, Safety Unit were also requested.

No firefighter injuries were reported.

The fire is being investigated by the Middletown Township Fire Marshal’s office, under the direction of Fire Marshal Edward Skelly.
