Middletown Adding Extra Crossing Guards To West Front Street
The Middletown school district is also talking to the town about adding extra signs at that intersection, such as "Pedestrian Crossing."

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — This September, Middletown is adding additional crossing guards to the West Front Street intersection with Middletown-Lincroft Road. The guards will be in place at the start of the school year.
The Middletown school district is also talking to the town about adding extra signs at that intersection, such as the bright green "Pedestrian Crossing" sign. And the Township will make sure the sidewalks along Middletown-Lincroft Road are better maintained through the winter months.
This is the latest update in the request for busing to High School South from some parents who live in Lincroft. Their teenage sons and daughters have to walk more than two miles along Middletown-Lincroft Road to get to school, and the parents say it is unsafe.

However, no bus will be provided by the district.
The parents requesting the busing say adding crossing guards and keeping the sidewalks snow-free is still an unsatisfactory solution.

West Front Street has a 25 mph speed limit during school hours, but the speed limit on Middletown-Lincroft Road is still 40 mph. There are also several small bridges the students have to cross, which parents say can get icy and dangerous.
