MIDDLETOWN, NJ — This week, the Middletown Public Library launched “Kids Read Away Fines," a new late-fee forgiveness program that allows library card holders below the age of 18 to reduce library fines up to $10 per month by reading or attending library programs.

To participate in “Kids Read Away Fines,” Middletown kids and teens under 18 may read books, graphic novels, magazines, newspapers, digital databases, articles, ebooks or audiobooks and fill out the form which can be downloaded from the library website or requested from library staff.

For every 12 minutes of reading, $1.00 will be deducted from existing late fines, or $5 for each hour. Attending a library program will deduct $2.00. Fine reductions are limited to $10 per month per juvenile card.
