Middletown: Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Car On Hwy. 35 Tuesday
As of 9:20 p.m., Hwy. 35 north is temporarily closed to all traffic at the intersection of Bridge Avenue in Red Bank. Avoid the area.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car Tuesday evening on Rt. 35 at Navesink River Road in Middletown, according to Middletown Police. Update: The pedestrian has been identified by Middletown Police as William McAvoy, 62, of Middletown. McAvoy died at the scene as a result of his injuries, said Middletown Twp. Police.
The fatal crash happened at 7:53 p.m. in the northbound lanes at the intersection of Rt. 35 and Navesink River Road. The pedestrian, whose identity is not being released at this time, suffered fatal injuries.
The driver of the vehicle remained on location.

The crash scene is still active and as a result, northbound traffic on State Route 35 has been temporarily shut down at the intersection of Bridge Avenue and State Route 35 in Red Bank. Detours may change as the investigation continues.
Gov. Phil Murphy lives off Navesink River Road, home to many mansions and palatial riverfront estates. Rocker Jon Bon Jovi used to live on that road, too.

"Rt. 35 northbound all lanes closed and detoured South of CR 12A/Navesink River Rd in Middletown due to a pedestrian accident. Follow detour or plan alternate route," tweeted the NJ Dept. of Transportation at 8:34 p.m. Tuesday.
The crash investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Middletown Twp. Police Traffic Safety Unit at (732) 615-2045.
