Nobody Injured In Highlands House Fire Monday Morning

Breaking: A two-alarm fire broke out in a private home on Waterwitch Avenue in Highlands just before 8 a.m. Monday.

HIGHLANDS, NJ — A fire broke out in a private home on Waterwitch Avenue in Highlands just before 8 a.m. Monday. Nobody was in the home at the time and nobody was injured, Acting Highlands Police Chief Robert Burton told Patch.

The home is very close to Raritan Bay, at Waterwitch and Marine Place. The call of the fire came in at 7:55 a.m. and it quickly rose to a second-alarm status. The volunteer Highlands fire department had to call out for mutual aid and units from Sea Bright, Middletown and Atlantic Highlands responded. The Middletown air unit had to refill air bottles for firefighters. The home's owners were not home and there were no injuries to residents or fire personnel, Chief Burton said.

Det. George Ruth of the Highland Police Dept. is investigating the cause. This is a photo from the scene supplied by the Atlantic Highlands Fire Dept.
