Pennsylvania Woman Charged In Connection With 4-Year-Old's Death

Paige Scully faces homicide, DUI, and child endangerment charges after an accident that killed her daughter, who has ties to Monmouth Co.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A 29-year-old Pennsylvania woman and the mother of a 4-year-old girl with ties to Monmouth County has been charged in the toddler's death following an accident last week, the Pennsylvania State Police confirmed.

Paige Scully, 29, Montrose, PA, was charged with homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, and child endangerment following an accident on Nov. 18 in Susquehanna County, Penn. According to police, Scully lost control of her car on State Road 364 at 10 p.m. after leaving a local bar.

The 4-year-old girl, who was identified as Aubree Engstrom, was flown to a local hospital following the accident but later died, police confirmed Monday. According to police, state troopers smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from Scully’s breath and body and said she had glassy, red eyes and dilated pupils.

Upon searching Scully’s car, officers found an open alcoholic beverage, which Scully admitted to drinking before driving. Police determined that Scully was under the influence of alcohol and was in no condition to drive following a field sobriety test after which Scully refused medical treatment.

According to to her obituary, Aubree Engstrom was an adventure seeker who loved going to the creek to collect fossils, playing hide and seek, and always stopped to smell the flowers. A private service is planned for Aubree, who was preceded in death by her father, Tyler Engstrom, 25, of Union Beach, who died April 25, and who had Scully listed as his fiancé in his obituary.
