PHOTO: Whale Spotted In Sandy Hook Bay
Humpback whales are feeding at Sandy Hook. Volunteers are also searching for an entangled whale, spotted in that area Thursday.

A humpback whale was spotted this weekend in Sandy Hook Bay.
Bill Schultz, the Raritan Riverkeeper spotted the whale on Sunday.
Meanwhile searchers are also looking for a humpback whale spotted Thursday near Sandy Hook.

That whale was entangled with a yellow trap buoy and yellow flag, according to Facebook posts.
The Marine Mammal Stranding Center said that whale had not been located, but it wanted to thank Schultz for his “tireless efforts,’’ searching for it.

“The entangled whale was not located, but there are humpbacks feeding at Sandy Hook,’’ the Center said on a Facebook post, which included a photo taken by Schultz.
The NY/NJ Baykeeper said they were unsure if the whale spotted Sunday was the same animal as the one seen Thursday.
The Raritan Riverkeeper said a whale was spotted off of Monmouth Beach and Sea Bright Sunday.
The entangled whale was spotted Thursday afternoon, about two miles east of Sandy Hook.
According to Gotham Whale, that entangled whale was believed to be in good health and not believed to be in immediate danger. The buoy can only be seen when the whale dives.
