Student Arrested For Middletown High School North Threats, Police Say

A Middletown North student has now been charged with making terroristic threats in a Snapchat video Tuesday. Watch the video:

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A teen who posted a threatening Snapchat video Tuesday about Middletown High School North has been charged with making terroristic threats. He has also been suspended.

The teen, who is unnamed because he is a juvenile, posted the video Tuesday night to Snapchat; you can watch it below. First reported by MoreMonmouthMusings, the teen shows bullets and says, "38 bullets? Why does he have this many? Lord knows you're in Keansburg, not Camden."

After Middletown police were notified, they searched the home of the student and found no weapons or ammunition. They said his parents have also been very cooperative in the investigation. The student was sent to Monmouth Medical Center for evaluation. He was suspended and charged by police Thursday with making terroristic threats.

Police said there is no threat to Middletown North students and school was open today, with a police officer present.

Middletown police spokesman Lt. Paul Bailey also said rumors circulating on social media of six of seven more students involved in the threat are false.

"We would also like to reassure the community that an extensive search was conducted and we are confident that the individual does not possess or have access to any firearms or ammunition, despite any videos or images that may have been posted," police said.

"This morning, I was present at Middletown High School North and witnessed a safe and orderly arrival of students and start to the school day," said Middletown schools superintendent Dr. Bill George. "Please be assured that the district and police put student and staff safety as their top priority."

Police also said there was much misinformation circulating about this incident that is "causing unwarranted fear in the school community. We would like to reassure everyone that there is absolutely no threat to our students or staff."
