Sandy Hook Park Getting Ready for Summer 2016

National Park Service still deciding what to do about Seagull's Nest Restaurant, which closed after being badly damaged in Hurricane Sandy.

Sandy Hook, NJ - It sure may not feel like beach weather out yet, but the National Park Service, which runs Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area, is currently prepping the beaches for summertime:

And that includes tearing down three food concession stands that were badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

As they have for the past few years, mobile food trucks will continue to serve beachgoers this summer at Sandy Hook, the National Park Service (NPS) announced last week. Three Sandy Hook food concession stands will be knocked down this spring. All of the park's concession stands were flooded by Hurricane Sandy, as the entire Sandy Hook park was badly damaged by the super storm.

Beach center stands at Areas B, C and E will be knocked down, and utility hook-ups are being built at Areas C, D, E, G and I. The utility connection will allow the mobile food trucks and vending machines to be plugged in.

The National Park Service is still deciding what to do about Area D in the park, which once housed the popular Seagull’s Nest Restaurant. Seagull's Nest was badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy. The lease was not renewed, and the restaurant has been closed since the storm. The park will decide what to do with the space, including whether a new restaurant will open there, by the fall of 2016, an NPS spokeswoman said.
