Warehouse Fire Breaks Out In North Middletown Sunday

The fire broke out at 7:48 a.m. Sunday and was reported by a passerby who saw smoke coming from the warehouse on Hwy. 36 south.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — There was a warehouse fire on Rt. 36 south in the North Middletown section Sunday morning.

The fire broke out at 7:48 a.m. Sunday and was reported by a passerby who said they saw smoke coming from the Coffey warehouse. Firefighters found smoke coming from the garage doors and the rear left side of the warehouse. It still remains unknown what caused the fire.

Two Middletown volunteer firefighters were treated on scene for shoulder injuries.

The Middletown all-volunteer fire department operated under Chief Bernie Chenoweth and First Assistant Fire Chief William Kane, Jr.

The fire was placed under control by the Middletown Fire Dept. at 8:16 a.m. All units were cleared from the scene at 1:22 p.m.

Approximately 56 firefighters from four companies of the Middletown Township Fire Department responded to the call from Community, East Keansburg, Port Monmouth and Belford Independent fire companies.

All units operated safely under the supervision of Middletown Township Fire Department Fire Chief Bernie Chenoweth.

The fire is being investigated by the Middletown Township Police Department and the Middletown Township Fire Marshal’s office under the direction of Fire Marshal Edward Skelly.
