Another Grease Thief Swipes Cooking Oil In Montclair, Police Say

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Another grease thief has struck in Montclair, police say.

Montclair is known for its renowned restaurant scene. But the town has also seen its fair share of cooking oil bandits, according to police reports.

The latest theft took place on Midland Avenue on Saturday. Here’s what happened, the Montclair Police Department said:

“The caller reported that he was sitting in his office when he observed an unmarked, white van pulling into the parking lot of La Rocca. He reported a [man] exited the van and began pumping used cooking oil of the restaurants used oil tank. Officers confirmed with the owner of the restaurant that this was unauthorized. The van was described as a white work van, possibly a Ford, with rust along the sides. It had no windows in the rear cargo body of the van.”

The theft hasn’t been the first time that someone has been accused of stealing used cooking oil in the township. Similar incidents have been reported on Alvin Place, Valley Road, Glenridge Avenue, Midland Avenue, Park Street and Walnut Street.
