Back To ‘State Of Emergency’ For Montclair After 1 Day Respite

MONTCLAIR, NJ — UPDATE: The Montclair OEM rescinded the state of emergency notice issued on March 21 at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Our original article follows below.

It’s back to a “state of emergency” for Montclair. Barely 24 hours after lifting a 13-day state of emergency declared during a nor’easter storm earlier this month, the Montclair Office Of Emergency Management (OEM) has again placed the township under alert.

On Tuesday, acting in advance of weather forecasts for New Jersey’s fourth nor'easter in three weeks, the Montclair OEM issued a state of emergency that will become effective at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21.

Here’s what the Montclair OEM had to say about the latest storm forecast:

  • "The declaration was made to support snow removal and see to any emergencies caused by snow and high winds. Non-essential travel and on-street parking will be prohibited for all vehicles for the duration of the state of emergency."
  • "Under a state of emergency, vehicles will be permitted to park in municipal lots and decks free of charge beginning at 8 p.m. [Tuesday] evening."
  • "Vehicle owners who park in a municipal lot or deck before 8 p.m. [Tuesday] evening will incur full charges for time parked prior to 8 p.m."
  • "Once the state of emergency is lifted, those who parked in municipal lots and decks will have 12 hours to remove their vehicles."

In addition to the above, the following services have been cancelled for Wednesday, March 21:

  • Evening shuttle service
  • Recycling drop-off at public works yard
  • Edgemont Park House will be closed Wednesday and Thursday
