Montclair School Budget Doesn’t Have Deficit, Teachers Union Says
The proposed spending plan for Montclair Public Schools may have a surplus, not a deficit, the local teachers union claims.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — Is the Montclair Board of Education’s draft 2019-2020 school budget about $2.2 million in the hole, as recently reported? Not according to a local teachers’ union, which says that the proposed spending plan may actually have a $3.8 million surplus.
Montclair Education Association members are contending that a recent audit of the district’s school budget revealed an overall $3.8 million surplus, Montclair Local reported on Thursday. (Read the full article here)
That stands in contrast to a Feb. 19 presentation from district officials, which claimed that the spending plan – which is still in development – is $2.22 million over budget.
