$800K Bail Held for North Jersey Dad Accused of Kidnapping Sons

Kristopher Dohm faces charges of interference of custody and kidnapping.

In his first court appearance since being extradited to New Jersey, Kristopher Dohm of Hopatcong had his bail held at $800,000 with no 10-percent option Thursday in Superior Court in Sussex County.

According to nj.com, Dohm appeared in court without legal representation, but was approved for a public defender.

Dohm was found in a seedy Florida hotel in March with his two sons, Parker and Jaxon, after kidnapping them nearly six weeks earlier. When found, Dohm was accompanied by Edward Tarras, a fugitive from Tennessee charged with multiple sex-related crimes on teenage girls.

Dohm currently faces charges of interference of custody and kidnapping.

He and his ex-wife, Sandra Hughes-Dohm, had joint custody of their sons, ages 8 and 7. In early February, Kristopher Dohm allegedly told his ex-wife he wanted to take the boys to see an ailing relative in Nevada and requested extra time with them, which was granted by their mother.

Sussex County Assistant Prosecutor Seana Pappas said an investigation has revealed Kristopher Dohm planned to “permanently deprive” Hughes-Dohm of custody, and intended to live “off the grid” in Utah until his sons were 18, the report said.

Dohm’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 4 at 9 a.m.
